Gross vs net

Dutch employers withhold income tax and social premiums at source. Your 'netto' is what lands in your account; your 'bruto' is what's contractually agreed.

Holiday allowance (vakantiegeld)

8% of your gross salary, paid once a year — usually in May. Many newcomers miss this windfall in their first year.

Payday rhythm

Most Dutch employers pay monthly, around the 25th. Uitzendbureaus often pay weekly.

30% ruling (knowledge migrants)

If eligible, 30% of your salary can be paid tax-free. Your employer applies — don't assume it's automatic.
